Tournament Overview
Tournament Date: November 09, 2019
Welcome to Next Level Pinball weekend! This is a series of IFPA sanctioned events Friday, Saturday, and Sunday that are designed to showcase several different formats for pinball, as well as being optimized for some great WPPR points if you're looking to gather some before the end of the year! Come for one tournament or come for all three, but we're excited to see some of the best pinball players the West Coast as well as newer players that are looking to get involved in the competitive pinball scene!
Please pre-register for the events by emailing NextLevelPinball@gmail.com and including your name and which tournament(s) you're planning to attend. Pre-registrations will be on a first-come, first-reserved basis. We have TONS of pinball machines, but an overall capacity quota. We'll absolutely take same-day registrations as long as there is room, I'm just trying to make sure if we're getting out-of-towners and are close to capacity that people don't make the drive out if there isn't space in the tournament.
We also may be able to expand capacity on a couple of these events, we just need to plan accordingly to let the general public know that we're at capacity on certain days. Thanks in advance and I'm excited to see y'all there!
Entry Fee: $15 Next Level Entry fee + $15 tournament buy in. All machines on Free Play!
Time: 11am - Noon: Doors to Next Level open for registration and warm-up (tournament games cannot be practiced on, but other machines will be on for free-play warm up).
Noon - 1:15: Round 1
1:15 - 3:30: Round 2
3:30 - 4:45: Round 3
4:45 - 5:30: DINNER BREAK
5:30 - 6:45: Round 4
6:45 - 8:00: Round 5
8:15 - 9:30: Quarter Finals
9:30 - 10:45: Semi-Finals
10:45 - Midnight: FINALS
Format: This is a Match-Play style format with 4-player (or 3-player) groups playing 3-game banks during each round. Each game bank will have a variety of games, with the intent to have a modern, mid-era, and early-era game in each three-game bank. Initial groups in Round 1 will be a random draw, and every subsequent Round will match players with similar records. Scoring will be 3-2-1-0 on each machine, meaning a perfect round would net you 9 points. In three players groups, scoring will be 3-1.5-0.
At the end of Round 5, the top 16 players will move onto Division A Finals.
Brackets for the duration of Finals will be based on your initial seeding from qualification, with Quarter Finals brackets set up as 1vs.8vs.9vs.16, 2vs.7vs.10vs.15, 3 vs.6vs.11vs.14, and 4 vs.5vs.12vs.13. The top seeded player in each match will get to choose both game bank AND position for the first game. However, a player may only choose a game bank once during the entirety of finals, so they may choose to defer to the next highest seeded player. For subsequent games, the last-place finisher chooses their order of play for the next game, followed by 3rd place, 2nd place, then 1st place finisher. In the event of a tie, there will be a one-game play-off on a randomly selected game that was not in the just-played bank. Top 2 finishers from each group advance.
Semi-Finals and Finals will be conducted in the same format as above, excepting any ties for 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and 4th will also move to a tie-break format to determine final placement in the tournament.
There will also be a Division B Finals conducted in the same format as above for players ending qualification in positions 17-32.
There will be dedicated "Division A" and "Division B" banks for the duration of Finals.
Prizes: Payouts (less IFPA fee and trophy costs) for Top 8 finishers in Division A and top 4 in Division B.
Trophies for Top 4 in Division A. Trophy for winner of Division B. Trophy for best Novice player (based in Final Tournament Standings for anyone outside of the IFPA top 1000).
Capacity: 72 players
