Tournament Overview

Tournament Date: July 12, 2015

Welcome to PinBowl, a unique pinball tournament that will entertain our love of pinball with a bowling twist! This is the first time we’ve done this, and I think it’s going to be fun!

The goal of PinBowl is to get “strikes” and “spares” by reaching a target score on ten different pinball machines. At the end of the tournament, whoever has the highest bowling score will be declared the winner! Bowling scoring will be used, so check out the internet for a refresher on that.

Here’s how it works: If you reach the target score on ball one, that frame will be marked as a “strike.” Otherwise, the number of “pins down” for that ball will be marked as your ball one score for the frame. Every 10% of the target score will be considered a “pin down.”

If the target score (a strike) is not achieved in ball one, the player will have 2 more balls to reach the target score. Reaching the target score after 2 or 3 balls will result in a “spare.” If a spare is not achieved, the ball 2 and 3 “pins down” will be marked as the ball 2 score for the frame.

Each of the ten games at Mortimers will represent one of the ten bowling frames. The target scores and “pin down” thresholds will be clearly posted on each game. The extra 10th frame games (if needed) will be determined by the tournament director before the tournament begins. Once all frames have been played, the bowling scores will be calculated and a winner crowned!

--------------------------------
Here’s an example:

Lets say that the target score on Medieval Madness is 20 million points. If Paula Pinball scores 20 million on her first ball, then she records a strike. Easy.

Otherwise, one “pin down” will be recorded for every 2 million points Paula scored. So if she got 13.2 million on ball one, she would record a “6” for the ball one score for the frame. Then, she will have 2 more balls to try to get her score up to 20 million and record a spare.

If she did not reach the target, and ended up with 18.7 million, then she will record her additional “pins down” that happened during balls 2 and 3, so a “3” would be marked as the ball two score for the frame.

The 10% threshold has to be broken for the pin to count, so the “pins down” in this example would look like this:
20million or more= Strike (or spare if in ball 2 or 3)
18mil to 19.999mil=9 pins down
16mil to 17.999mil=8 pins down
14mil to 15.999mil=7 pins down
12mil to 13.999mil=6 pins down
…etc…
0-1.999mil= no pins/gutter
-----------------------------------

PinBowl will be free to enter, only coin drop for the games will be needed. This tournament will be IFPA sanctioned, and WPPR points will be awarded. I’m also working on some sweet prizes for the top finishers, so watch out for that. Nothing, however, will feel better than knowing that you are a PinBowl Champion!
