Tournament Overview
Start Date: June 13, 2019
End Date: July 20, 2019
The majority of the main tournament consists a month long (or so) qualifying round on (20) machines selected from around the Pittsburgh area. You only need to play (10) of the (20) machines to qualify for finals, although, you have a chance at a better score by playing all of the selected games. Only your top (10) scores will make up your final score.
Players earn points depending on where their score is ranked on each machine. Players may practice any machine, at any time, as many times as they please although their official score will be the score that is recorded by a score keeper. Your scorekeeper must be a registered paid member of the Pittsburgh Summer Pinball Championship for 2019. Your qualifying game must be announced to your scorekeeper prior to the start of your game. Scores will ONLY be accepted from your scorekeeper via the submission form.
The player's performance on each machine is ranked among other player’s scores and a composite score is determined. To prevent a dishonest player(s) from cheating or "sniping" top scores, the top (3) scores from each game will be hidden during the qualifying round until either the score has been surpassed or until qualifying ends. All scores will be revealed post-qualifying/pre-playoff round. Player’s composite scores are then ranked among each other’s and the tournament director will determine how many players are delegated to each division.
If a player is restricted to A and does not qualify in the A division on their own merit, he or she will be placed in the Elimination round where only the winner will take the last spot in the A and the rest will be placed in the bottom of the standing where they will have no choice of game or order and will start off with 2 strikes in the B division 3-strikes bracket. The unrestricted player that finishes at the bottom of the A division will then have a choice of playing in either A or B.
In the finals tournament, players play against each other in MATCH PLAY format. Players will play in groups of 4 on 4 machines (Pinburgh format/scoring, 3,2,1,0) where the top 2 players from each group will pass on to the next round.
There are also mini-tournaments and other miscellaneous activities. Complete details are available here in the official rules, as well as on the Web site. tinyurl.com/PSPCinfo
