Tournament Overview
Registration for this tournament opens on March 01, 2023
Start Date: July 06, 2023
End Date: July 09, 2023
High-Stakes Hunter:
The high-Stakes event this year will consist of a hardcore, bad to the bone Progressive card unlimited qualifying period followed by an equally demanding finals component. Beginning promptly at 5PM to 12AM on Thursday, July 6th running through Friday, 11AM to 2AM, then Saturday from 11AM until cutoff at 10PM, there will be plenty of time to watch the pot grow. The High-Stakes finals event will begin as soon as possible when the last player in Open main Finals is able to begin and running until a wad of cash gets awarded to the best there is. The finals will not be a long drawn out event. Play hard. Play fast.
Cards for the High-Stakes Tournament cost 5$ for the first card, 10$ for the 2nd, 20$ for 3rd and so on increasing by 10$ per card without cap. Games are set to $.50. Combatants may purchase as many cards as pesos they wish to risk.
Registration:
The registration process is both complicated and simple. Mostly simple. Each contestant must register with Hangar Pinball officials to receive their card and cough up cash. Each player will be spreadsheeted for tracking progress on card costs with the card being virtual using “It Never Drains” software. Standings/Queuing will be displayed in real-time on the overhead scoreboard and on your personal device.
Qualifying:
Qualifying the quest to become a bad-ass and richer person will put the player face to face, Mano-a-machine, in a bank of 6 randomly chosen games without concern for your happiness. Mostly modern, with perhaps a classic or EM sprinkled in; expect an even more murderous rage setup enabled than all other banks. We’re playing for keeps aren’t we? You may look as mean as you want, but be aware they probably will not back down from your menacing glazed-over eyes. All games will be set to competition settings in “DEFAULT.”
What’s a card? Glad you asked. A card is comprised of 5 games. A player must play at least 5 of the 6 pins to be awarded a score. Scoring will be awarded linearly with the top player earning 100pts, 2nd 99, 3rd 98 and so on. The idea is to keep it extremely tight leaving zero doubt the top 8 qualifiers earned it.
Finals:
Determining Number of Finalists:
Yes, 8. This is the simple part. The top 8 cards will be honored with an invitation to throw the heck down Sunday morning promptly at 10AM, July 9th 2023, against 7 other hard-core pin-gangstas. High-Stakes means more than just money, it means little room for error during play as well. You got what it takes? Yeah, we think so too, but let’s find out on the battle field. #PlayBetter…
Finals Format:
The final will be played as a group Matchplay event. 2 groups of four players will battle it out across 5, TWO game rounds with 7-5-3-1 scoring. There will be no byes, no divisions and certainly no pats on the back until it’s over. At the conclusion of 5 rounds, the 2 players from each group with the most pathetic scores will each receive a karate chop to the collar bone and be eliminated from further competition. So don’t suck.
The highest seed from qualifying in each group has a choice of game OR game position to start round 1. For all subsequent matches, the choice of game OR position will belong to the winner of the previous match, then in reverse finishing order. (i.e., last place chooses next).
Players will be placed in groups in the most equitable way possible. 1-4-5-8 and 2-3-6-7 seems about right.
Tie breakers will be played as required.
Round 2 will be played as 5, SINGLE game rounds with 7-5-3-1 scoring. Brutal huh! Yes. It is. Rhetorical.
May the pin-gods look down kindly upon your soul and may the fastest, most knowledgeable reflex’s win.
*In the event top seed/previous match winner declines game choice, 2nd seed/place will assume that role.
Prize Pool:
Like money? Thought so. Here’s how to get some…
1st 50% of pot. Take home the cake with a plaque commemorating your exquisitely honed skills silhouetted against the setting western sun as a top-dog of pinball prowess rife with wads of cash in hand.
2nd 22% of pot. Still kinda cool. We guess.
3rd 14% of pot. Not bad. Not bad. Not great. But not bad.
4th 6% of pot. Pats head gently*
5th-8th 2% of pot. Hey it’s something. At least you’re not one of those unqualified players with pockets hanging out releasing nothing but flies and lint. So there is that.
The JetStreaM:
We will be competing on the national stage live and forever over the interwebz. Please be advised you could appear on the internet by attending. While no one is telling anyone how to dress around here, please do just be aware.
All games played will be held to the highest IFPA standards.
Contest Management reserves the right to make minor changes if it becomes necessary as foreseen everything is hard, but and such change will be placed on the tournament website prior to event launch. Final rulings will be at the sole discretion of the Tournament Director.
