Tournament Overview
Start Date: September 15, 2023
End Date: September 16, 2023
The 2023 Shawnee Open is an annual event that uses both Pizza West and Knub's Pub that strives to draw a bigger turnout and a bigger prize pool than a regular monthly tournament through the sponsorship of beloved local businesses. We will use a pingolf format with open qualifying and A and B division finals, which allows for lots of people to participate and more opportunities to win prizes. We will have tournament directors at both locations to help people get started and assist with questions. Pizza West and Knub's Pub are owned by 2 brothers, they both have great food and drinks, they both have 7 great pinball machines, and they are a quick stroll down the sidewalk from eachother!
Qualifying windows:
Pizza West
Friday 4pm-9pm
Knub's Pub 4pm-11pm
Saturday 11am-5pm
Players may start on or after the start time of each window but players MUST finish their games by the end of the window. We recommend allowing at least 3 hours to complete a qualifying round.
We will do 9 holes of pingolf qualifying, using some games from each location. Players will do their qualifying in groups of 2-4 and we can assist with grouping people together. There will be a Friday evening qualifying session and a Saturday morning qualifying session. Most players will choose to do their 9 qualifying games either Friday evening or Saturday morning. If a player is unhappy with their Friday qualifying session, they may choose to pay another entry fee and play again on Saturday but they must forfeit their Friday score!
Playoffs:
Saturday
A Division 6pm at Knub's Pub
B Division 6pm at Pizza West
We will take 8 players to A division playoffs and the next 8 players who aren't in the IFPA top 500 to B playoffs. 3 games will be played each round. We will continue to use Pin-Golf scoring. The best 2 players from each group will advance to the next round until there are only 4 players remaining. The final 4 players will play another round of 3 games, which will determine the final ranking of each player.
If there is a tie that affects whether a player will move on to finals, we will automatically break ties where possible by taking the player with the most holes in one, followed by most holes in 2 etc. This avoids having to call people in to play tie breakers. If there is a significant tie during playoffs that affects whether a player moves to the next round or payouts, the tournament director will randomly select an available game to be played for the tie breaker. Players will play a normal game (not pingolf scoring) where the player with the highest score moves on.
Entry fee $15 (100%payout)
Games cost 25 cents-$1 in coin drop
Prizes: there will be trophies, cash payouts, and donated prizes
We will be using match play so players can use their phones to check the standings.
