Tournament Overview
Tournament Date: May 04, 2024
It's Derby Season at What’s Brewing! Wear your best hat and see who will Win, Place or Show!
We're changing it up this year with a group Matchplay qualifying format followed by an Amazing Race finals format! Registration opens at 12:30 PM, first round starts at 1:00PM. Entry is $15 + coin drop*. We will have cash prizes for top finishers, door prizes, coffee, and more. BYOB.
QUALIFYING: Each round players will be placed in four player groups. Depending on the number of players there may be three player groups. The Matchplay software will attempt to ensure that all players in a group have been placed on the game an equal number of times, though this cannot be guaranteed. Players will be matched according to balanced pairing. This means that the software matches players with a random opponent they haven’t faced previously in the same tournament. At the end of each round, players will earn points depending on their finishing positions of each game (7, 5, 3, 1). Results will be submitted by players via the Matchplay.events software. Qualifying play will be from 1-4 pm with the top 20 players advancing to finals. If less than 40 players participate in qualifying, then the top 50% of players will advance.
TIEBREAKERS: Ties will only be broken when a player's participation in the finals is impacted. The tie will be settled by a one game tiebreaker, with the game randomly selected. Ties that impact whether or not the involved players will advance will be settled by a one game tiebreaker selected at random. Inconsequential ties will not be broken
SEEDING: Seeding will be determined based on player's qualifying results. Any ties among potential qualifiers who did not play in a tiebreaker will be determined by the strength-of-opponents as calculated by Matchplay.Events.
AMAZING RACE: We will be utilizing Matchplay software for the Amazing Race. Games will be played in a predetermined order and will be set to free play. The player with the last seed will play first. All players will play single player games on the same machines and the player with the lowest score for each machine is knocked out of the tournament. Once a player exceeds the lowest score for a machine, the player will immediately stop playing and plunge any remaining balls. That player should then advance to the end of the queue of the next machine in the sequence. If a player earns a new low score for a machine, then the previous holder of the low score advances to the queue of the next machine. Multiple machines will be played simultaneously to the extent possible. The last player standing wins!
* Machines will be on free play for the Amazing Race component of the tournament.
