Tournament Overview

Start Date: November 29, 2024
End Date: December 01, 2024

The Ontario Open returns! It’s the largest pinball event in Ontario in 2024. 5 events over one weekend, Nov. 29-Dec. 1/24 at Maple Pinball in Mississauga, home to over 70 new and classic machines.

Weekend packages are capped at 76 players, waitlist will be taken. Weekend players will receive preference and be able to book on Sat., Sept. 21 (1pm ET), 6 days earlier than booking individual events (which could be sold out). Cost: $130 for weekend Fri-Sun. This covers 3 of the events: Main, Classics, Match Play. Cost covers fee for Maple Pinball, expenses, trophies, IFPA fees, software fees, and prize money for these 3 event’s prize pools. The $130 weekend package includes 10 free entries into the Main event and one free raffle ticket, if signed up & paid by Sept. 26. Women’s Saturday event (24 players) is an additional optional $20 for those interested. 3 Strikes event (44 players) is additional optional $20 on Sunday. Women’s & Sunday 3 strikes go on sale on Sat., Sept. 21 at 1pm ET.

Hours open:
Friday 1pm-11pm
Saturday 10am-11pm (9-10am Saturday for volunteers)
Sunday 9am-8pm

Tourneys include:
1. Ontario Open Main event (THIS one on this IFPA page). Best game (herb score) – Fri-Sun. ‘A’ & ‘B’ divisions. Qualifying ends 1pm Sunday. Individual cost for this tourney only is $65, if not buying the weekend package ($130). This Main event is not capped for the number of players, but only 76 weekend packages are available.

2. Ontario Open Classics event. Friday night (MaxMatchPlay) from 6-9pm. Playoffs Sat. morning (Amazing Race for top 16). Individual cost for this tourney only is $45 (if not sold out), for those not buying the weekend package ($130). Playoffs played on EM’s & SS’s in Row 1-4.

3. Ontario Open Women’s event. Saturday morning, 10am-noon. 6 rounds of group matchplay. Top 4 finals (ladder) at 12:10pm. Additional optional payment of $20 required. Capped at 24 players. Played in Row 5-6.

4. Ontario Open Match Play event. Friday night at 9:30pm for rounds 1 & 2, continues Saturday at 1pm with round 3. Each of the 10 rounds consists of 2 games in the same era (EM’s, SS’s, Moderns). Top 24 in "A" playoffs. Next 4 (eligible*) in "B" playoffs. 1st round of playoffs (3 games, 4 players) for "A" is Saturday night after round 10 (and after significant tie-breakers). Sunday playoff rounds 2-4 start at 9am and "B" playoffs start at approx. noon (when finals in “A” begin). Individual cost for this tourney only is $65 (if not sold out), for those not buying the weekend package ($130).

5. Ontario Open 3 Strikes event. Capped at 44 players. Cost $20 (with 100% full refund available for this 3 Strikes event, if you choose to play in Main playoffs instead). This is separate event not covered in weekend fee. Starts Sunday at 2pm. Note: may or may not be IFPA. Depends if selfish/greedy playoff players in Main event want to play in it...for which they will not be allowed, and then this event becomes non-IFPA. Public shame to follow.

Qualifying: Friday 1-11 pm. Saturday 10am-11pm (9-10am for volunteers). Sunday. 9am-1pm.
- Bank of 13 machines (4-5 from each era). Your best scores on 9 different machines count for your total.
- Top 24 in A Division (top 8 get a bye). Top 24 in ‘A’ playoffs get paid. Winner gets trophy!
- B division (eligible): top 8 players (players ranked 1-750 as of Nov. 27 not eligible for B division). Top 8 in ‘B’ playoffs get paid.
- After qualifying is done, players tied with the same number of points will have their best game(s) as tie breaker(s) for seeding ONLY. If two or more players are tied for a significant playoff spot (i.e. byes, or final playoff spot), they will play a one-game playoff (random game & order) to determine seeding. This will take place immediately when qualifying ends at 1pm Sunday.
- Playoffs: Sunday at 1:30pm (goal to be done by 8pm).
- Players will play 3 games per round with 4-2-1-0 scoring, with the top 2 players advancing to the next round. Top seed picks game bank or order of 1st game (lowest score of playoff game gets choice of order on next game in that bank). If there's a tie after 3 games to advance or any spot 1st-4th place in Finals, top seed gets choice of order on pre-determined tie-breaker game.
- IFPA Certified event which will result in a total of 220% WPPR
