QUALIFYING:
Qualifying will be 7 rounds of 3 games each. Each round will consist of one old game, one new game, and one mid game. Players will get randomly generated player positions for game 1 of the round and then rotate for the rest of the games of the round. We will be using 7/4/2/0 scoring, where players earn two points per player they beat plus an additional point for winning the game. All of qualifying will take place on Saturday the 16th, with a short lunch break after round 2 and a longer dinner break after round 5. Qualifying player groups will be decided by a tiered swiss process, with initial seed being based on IFPA rank at the start of the tournament.
TIES:
All ties below the cutline will not be broken. All ties to qualify for finals or to receive a bye will be played off on a randomly selected game; these ties will be played off after the conclusion of qualifying on Saturday. Ties above the cutline for insignificant positions (eg: ties for seeding) will be decided by an automatic tiebreaker.
PLAYOFFS:
The top 24 players will make the A playoffs. Playoffs will start on Sunday at 11am SHARP! - players with a bye must check in by 12pm. Playoffs will be a double elimination Head to Head format, utilizing single byes for the top 8 players. The winners' bracket matches will be best of 5, and the losers bracket matches will be best of 3. The finals games will be divided into old, mid, and new picks corresponding to the qualifying banks. Players may not pick 2 games from the same era in the same match. Players alternate picks, whoever won/lost does not matter. Higher seed picks first for game 1. Players may wait one deep for the game of their choice, but are not permitted to wait two deep - the player must select another game. Players may pick to go second instead of picking a game.
B PLAYOFFS:
The next 8 players who are ranked outside the IFPA top 500 will make the B playoffs. B playoffs start at 12pm SHARP on Sunday. All picking rules from A playoffs also apply HOWEVER B playoff matches are not allowed to wait behind A playoff matches.
