Tournament Overview

Registration for this tournament opens on July 26, 2025

Tournament Date: July 27, 2025

It is HOT out there so spend your Sunday afternoon inside at your favorite nerd bar! If pinball wasn't cool enough for you we've found a way to incorporate Dungeons and Dragons spells and dice rolls!

Tournament Date: Sunday July 27th at 3pm.

Location: My Parents' Basement in Avondale Estates, GA

Registrations: Registrations open at 12pm on 7/26/2025, the day before the tournament. This tournament is open to everyone. Registration will be capped at 20 players since we are trying something new and Critical Hit is slightly involved.

RULES: This will be a match play tournament with a Critical Hit deck in use. Qualifying will consist of 5-7 rounds depending on time. Players will play in groups of 4 or 3 players (7/5/3/1 or 7/4/1 scoring). Balanced pairing. Top 8 players will advance to a one game playoff where the top 2 advance from each group. Top 4 will then compete in a one game final round to determine final position. Exact format may vary based on interest and attendance.

Cost: $5 plus cash for games. $1 towards IFPA and $4 towards prize pool. Top 8 receive prizes.

**What's Critical Hit?**

At its core, Critical Hit is a fun way to incorporate a skill modifier system into a standard pinball tournament. Players are given cards that each have different effects that can be used to change the outcome of games. These cards are similar to Magic the Gathering and have spells and effects similar to Dungeons & Dragons. You can see the Critical Hit cards here: https://www.neverdrains.com/criticalhit/

Generally speaking, the better an individual player performs during the tournament, the more they will be targeted by other players, which serves to even the playing field for everyone.

Everything else is more or less the same as a regular match-play tournament with group-elimination playoffs to determine a winner.

As with all things pinball, there are a few more layers to this but if you go into the tournament knowing only these things, you'll still have a fun time.
