World Pinball Player Rankings update – Version 5.0 is LIVE!

world_pinball_player_rankings_wppr1As some of you may have noticed, the World Pinball Player Rankings had not been updated since the end of 2014. The challenges to migrate over to the new system were tougher than anticipated, but we are excited to announce that we have made the necessary changes to implement verions 5.0 and we are now LIVE.

We've changed the calendar submission and result submission pages to help fit the new WPPR rules, so IFPA endorsed tournament organizers please pay attention. Should you have any questions don't hesitate to ask.

Please be aware that EACH tournament now requires a calendar submission. If your side event is not on our calendar, you will not be able to submit us results when the time comes. Please drop us an email and will add it for you.

The current rankings reflect some of the backlog of January events that we received, along with the expansion of player resumes from the top 15 results to the top 20. While pre-2015 event values have not changed, we have split any periodic events or combo events (Main+Classics) into separate line items on a player's resume.

Full details fo the WPPR v5.0 system can be found HERE.

Why did all the historical monthly tournaments and such that were lumped together get broken up in the new format. I know they are separate going forward, but I didn’t think they would change historically?

  2. IFPA - International Flipper Pinball Association says:

Issues with getting the new system off the ground. We had some problems combining the ‘old way’ and ‘new way’ results, especially when it came to displaying those results.
Easiest fix to having rankings available before June of this year was to pull the plug and just split everything out in the past.

Are you going to reverse this when you are able to in the future? Our monthly’s were worth almost nothing even if you won, so the only thing that helped was the cumulative points total for the year, which was still only maybe 10 points each for the entire year. Broken out individually and then compared to the other event scores, they don’t even factor in. It essentially makes 3 years worth of events, (100+ events over 3 locations here in MN) worthless. 🙁

  4. IFPA - International Flipper Pinball Association says:

We’re not pursuing that. If anything it helps push the importance of 2015 results into being more meaningful more quickly, and that’s not a bad thing IMO.
Your MN events all now have the opportunity to be worth 30+ points each based on the metrics we’re currently using. It will be up to the player count and format of the events to dictate that value going forward.
