Tournament Overview
Tournament Date: February 23, 2020
Welcome to the 5th edition of the EMERALD CITY CUP! We are back for the 2020 edition at everyone's favorite location FLIP FLIP DING DING.
Based on player feedback we are expanding the A finals to TOP 24 players, as well as 8 players for B finals. There is now mores chance to make it into the finals to compete for the prizes and top WPPRs~!
The event will be held on Sunday February 23rd starting at 1 PM with door opening at NOON. We are returning with 68 players cap.
No pre-registration this year, we are keeping it simple, pay at the door, first come first serve.
Entry fee is $20 (+ game coin drop at usual FFDD low price) and 24 finalists!
The format of the tournament is as follows:
Players will be randomly assigned (balanced) 4-player groups in each round for 7 rounds of match play. Each round consists of one 4-player game on a randomly selected machine (or some 3-player matches if total player count not multiple of 4). Player group and machines are based on Matchplay "balanced" system. Players will be awarded either 7, 5, 3, or 1 points depending on whether they finish 1st, 2nd, 3rd, or 4th in each game (7/4/1 for 3 players groups).
24 players will make A finals (48 or more elegible players needed else, top 16 finals), however if players are tied at the end of the 7 qualifying rounds the tie breaker will be decided by higher number of 1st place then 2nd, 3rd and 4th. If players are still tied the player with the higher ranking in the previous round (or rounds, down to the 1st round) will win the tie breaker. If still tied, a one-game tie-breaker will be played.
There will also be Next 8 players in B finals (after top 24 in A finals). Players are eligible for B if IPR=3 or lower (http://pinballstats.info/search/) on the day of the tournament.
The finalist players will advance to a PAPA style finals round with the top 2 players from each group advancing to the next round. Score 4/2/1/0 with 3 games per round. Same format for the B finals.
Top seed of group (based on qualifying seed) can chose game or position, however a game can be selected only once throughout the whole finals.
If players are tied at the end of a playoff round, top seed can chose game or position for a full game tie breaker, however same rule apply regarding choosing a machine only once during playoff.
Emerald City Cup will start promptly at 1PM PST. Door open at NOON PST for registration and practice. Playoff rounds will begin immediately after qualifying, expected to be around 6PM.
