**Details**
*Qualifying - Group Match Play*
Group Match Play
7/5/3/1 match points for 1st/2nd/3rd/4th in 4-player groups
(or 7/4/1 in a 3-player group)
Balanced pairings and arenas.
After round 6 we will start a Roundless Round Robin Finals (aka Max Match Play). The top 4 players will be deactivated in the qualifying tournament and will be added to the finals tournament. If additional players are tied for 4th, they will also advance to the finals at this time. We will use "Adjust Points" to ensure these finals players remain at the top of the qualifying standings despite not playing in the subsequent qualifying round.
After round 7 we will grow the size of the Round Robin Finals to be a total of 9 players. Again tied players will also advance. If the "tied players advance rule" would cause more than 50% of the players to advance to the finals, then instead we'll do a full game tiebreaker and will only advance enough players to fill up the finals with 50% of the qualifying players.
Example 1: If there's a three-way tie for 4th place after round 6 then1st-6th place start the finals and skip round 7; after round 7 then the players who are 7th - 9th in the standings will join the finals.
Example 2: If there's a two-way tie for 9th place after round 7, then the top 10 players will all be part of the finals.
Example 3: If there are a total of 21 players in qualifying and there's a three-way tie for 9th place after round 7, then the players tied for 9th will play a tiebreaker game and only the top two finishers from that tiebreaker will advance to finals.
Match points earned during all 7 rounds will be used for the standings of players who don't make it to the Finals.
*Finals - Roundless Round Robin*
Roundles Round Robin
Arena selection using balanced setting (i.e. selected randomly avoidng repeats)
Player order: The player with the better qualifying position will play second. If the two players were tied in qualifying then they will play in a random order.
Each player who makes it to the Finals will play a head-to-head match vs each other player in the Finals. These matches will start up concurrent with Round 7 of qualifying.
New matches will be started as soon as a new pairing is possible using the Max Match Play / Roundless Round Robin software.
We hope all players stay through the end of their Phase 2 matches. If someone leaves before completing half of their Phase 2 matches their phase 2 results will be deleted and they'll have a final placement at the bottom of the Phase 2 standings. Players who won vs them in phase 2 will have their score reduced by one win as the match is deleted. If a player leaves after completing at least half of their matches, then their completed matches will still count, their subsequent pairings will be awarded as a win for their opponent, and their final standing will be based on the points they earned before leaving.
If players are tied for match points at the end of the round robin then they will be tied in the final standings (regardless of the head-to-head results among tied players). For 1st place, if players are tied they will play a tiebreaker game.
For the 1st place tiebreaker game, if one player was undefeated in the round robin vs tied players then they will get to choose the game and their position. Example: A defeated B and C; B defeated C; Player A chooses game and position, then Player B chooses among the remining positions. If each player in the tiebreaker has at least one loss to another player in the tiebreaker then each player will get to remove one game from the available machines before the machine and positions are determined randomly. Example: A defeated B; B defeated C; C defeated A; each player gets a veto.
