Tournament Overview
Tournament Date: October 20, 2024
Monthly weekend pinball tournament at My Parents' Basement!
Entry fee: $5 plus dollars for games
Register from 11:30-11:55 am
First round starts at 12:00 pm noon
Pace Match Play format (with a few adjustments vs last month)
Stay ahead of the pace to avoid being eliminated from the race to the finish line.
If you're at or ahead of the pace at the end of each round then you stay in the tournament for the next round. If you're behind the pace then you get knocked out.
Each round you are awarded points for your score in your 4-player game:
1st: 7 points
2nd: 5 points
3rd: 3 points
4th: 1 point
If you’re in a 3-player group:
1st: 7 points
2nd: 4 points
3rd: 1 point
Balanced pairings (you'll be grouped with a variety of other players)
Round: Pace
R7: 30 points (this may be adjusted*)
R8: 7 points more than the previous round (37 points)
R9: 7 points more than the previous round (44 points)
R10: 7 points more than the previous round (51 points)
R11: 7 points more than the previous round (58 points)
R12: 7 points more than the previous round (65 points)
* We may adjust the initial R7 points pace based on the number of players we have. If we make an adjustment it will be announced at the start of the tournament.
Once there are 4 or fewer players remaining, we move the the Final phase (possibly before round 12).
Finals clears the match points you earned from the previous rounds and is a single game among the remaining players to determine the top of the standings.
Top player(s) from qualifying choose the finals game. If there's an undisputed leader from qualifying they can choose any game that was included in qualifying (provided it hasn't had significant mechanical problems). If there's a tie for 1st after qualifying, each player will secretly choose 1 game and the game to be used will be chosen randomly from those options.
Everyone plays at least 7 rounds. Most people will play 8 rounds. So expect the tournament to run from noon to at least 3:30 pm, maybe as late as 5 pm if you’re doing great; or 6:15 pm if you make it all the way to the end.
RECAP OF CHANGES: Higher initial pace (more people will be eliminated in the first cut, but this enables the next change); Pace always increases by 7 (if you're playing then you still have a chance to make the finals); Sudden death finals (no chance of a runaway victory; you'll need to secure the win in directly play against the other top finishers); Choice of game (since the top player's match point advantage is erased they get to choose the game; other finalists will get to choose position in seed order).
